It may not be the largest park in Nice, but it is now officially one of the most beautiful: the garden of Villa Masséna has been awarded the "Jardin Remarquable" label by a jury of professionals, led by the DRAC (Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs) and validated by the Regional Prefect.

This French-style garden was designed by the famous French landscape architect Édouard André in 1898. It was quickly praised for its beauty. It only opened to the public in 1919 and became a public garden, undergoing renovations in the 2000s by the City of Nice’s green spaces team.

"I would like to congratulate the teams at the City of Nice’s green spaces who work every day to maintain our parks and gardens. Thanks to their work, we have received this recognition for the third time, as was the case for the Botanical Garden and the Phoenix Park," says Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice and President of the Nice Côte d'Azur Metropole.

"Created in 1901, the garden of Villa Masséna is the work of the famous landscape architect Edouard André, who harmoniously blended French regular and symmetrical styles with winding paths and free English-style groves, while creating a specific exotic landscape for Nice using palm trees and tropical plants. This label rewards the heritage value of this garden and the quality of its management and maintenance," explains the Mayor of Nice.

It is within this garden that you’ll find the memorial to the victims of the July 14, 2016 attack, as well as the Masséna Museum.
