The island of Porquerolles is the largest and closest of the Îles d'Hyères. It is also the most visited, to the point that quotas are put in place every summer to preserve it.
You can access Porquerolles from 13 ports located between Bandol and the Issambres, even though most routes are usually carried out from the Tour Fondue in Hyères or from La Londe des Maures.
Porquerolles is part of the Port-Cros National Park. If the crossing fares are high, it is also because it is probably the only French paid national park: on each crossing ticket, a tax is collected to fund the protection of the national park.
It is not recommended to visit Porquerolles on windy days in summer because part of the trails and beaches are then closed due to fire risk (see the details in our dedicated article).
One of the usual activities in Porquerolles is renting a bike on site. Most ferry companies offer the option to board with a bike, but it will be paid (generally between €17 and €20). On the other hand, dogs are often allowed and free on the maritime shuttles.
As with the crossing to Port-Cros, if you have a bit of luck, you will be able to spot dolphins during your crossing.
Finally, if you want to enjoy both islands, several companies offer combined tickets, allowing you to make a stop on each of the islands in a single day: Porquerolles and Port-Cros. This may be interesting if you really want to see both islands, but it is a bit of a shame because each one really deserves time to be discovered. There is an enormous amount to see on Porquerolles: its beaches, of course, but also its village, its trails, its contemporary art museum and its many historical remains. In short, plenty to keep you busy all day without getting bored!
The connection from the Tour Fondue port on the Giens Peninsula (Hyères) is the shortest and most used connection. It lasts on average 20 minutes, and the public service concessionaire provides the connection all year and several times per day. Depending on the season, there may be up to more than 20 round trips per day, starting at 6:45 a.m., with a final return in the early evening (19:00 or 19:30).
Round-trip fare: €24 per adult from May to September in high season. In April and October the fare is €22 and €17.70 from November to March.
For young people, aged 4 to 26, the fare is €21 in high season, and €17.70 from October to April inclusive.
It is free for children under 4 years old.
Attention: departing from the Tour Fondue has two major disadvantages:
- the car parks at the Tour Fondue are expensive: count between €11.10 and €13.50 for the day (10 or 12h package) for the car park managed by the TPM metropolitan authority, and up to €21 for those managed privately. It may also happen that some car parks are full on days of high attendance, and private car parks charge a €10 booking fee, meaning a day of parking for more than €30!
- access to the Tour Fondue is often congested in summer: Located at the end of the Giens Peninsula, reaching the Tour Fondue port involves crossing Hyères, then the Tombolo de Giens. This single road is usually saturated in summer and involves travel time to come and go, extended by about 20 to 30 minutes.
This is the most common alternative to departing from the Tour Fondue: depart from the Miramar port in La Londe des Maures with the Bateliers de la Côte d'Azur. The crossing lasts 30 minutes and is narrated.
The advantage of La Londe des Maures is easy access: From Hyères, it is the same distance and faster to get to the La Londe port than to the Tour Fondue on the Giens Peninsula. But in La Londe, you have 1,500 free parking spaces.
It is also possible to organize a stop on each of the two islands, Porquerolles and Port-Cros, on the same day: after a departure between 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. from La Londe and an arrival at Porquerolles, you board at 2:00 p.m. for a journey of about 30 minutes to Port-Cros, then a return from Port-Cros at 4:15 p.m. to La Londe.
2026 prices: €35.50 round trip for adults and €24 for children aged 4 to 12.
The fare for the two stops (Porquerolles + Port-Cros): €44 for adults and €25.50 for ages 4 to 12.
