It is a rare phenomenon that you will be able to observe this Wednesday at the end of the afternoon in the South region: the solar eclipse will be partial but will still reach more than 96% of occultation in certain areas in the south-west of the region.
The further west you are, the earlier the phenomenon will begin and the longer it will last due to sunset.
Since the eclipse will take place around sunset, it is recommended to avoid places with mountains or relief to the west. The ideal spot allows you to have the sunset on the horizon. Thus in the Southern Alps, you will need to climb to the summits or the various passes and avoid viewpoints located in valleys and whose horizon to the west will be blocked by mountains.
Here are therefore the exact times of the eclipse in the region.
For each city, 6 pieces of information:
- The time the phenomenon begins, that is to say the moment when the moon will start to pass in front of the sun. From then on, a small crescent will appear in the sun. Must be seen with appropriate glasses.
- The time of the maximum: this is when the brightness will be the lowest, with up to 96.3% occultation in the region. That is to say that the sun will be reduced to a very small crescent still very bright despite everything. Unlike in Spain. The eclipse will not be total in our regions.
- The height at maximum of the sun in degrees: Unfortunately, since the phenomenon will occur shortly before sunset, the sun will already be very low on the horizon at the maximum of the eclipse. It is often around 3°. You will therefore need to find places that are definitely clear towards the west.
- the time the phenomenon ends: when the moon finishes passing in front of the sun, that is the end of the partial eclipse.
- The Sunset time and the associated margin: Unfortunately in our region, the sun will set well before the end of the phenomenon. You will therefore not be able to see it until the end. The margin gives the time between the maximum of the eclipse and sunset.
